Solidarity in our solitude...?

We are all alone, together.

Each of us furiously working towards our selfish ends...

We are all alone.

So let's be alone, together.

I can't make promises to help you.

But I can promise not to get in your way.

I only worry about my own well-being (physical, mental and emotional) because I can't expect you to do that for anyone else but yourself...

So take good care of yourself.

And I'll take good care of myself.

But we'll do it together.

Solidarity in solitude? Absolutely.

  1. Actually I don't read much philosophy (they do tend to get a bit long-winded, and let's face it: they're all crazy!). The above are my words, but I will say this:

"Original thought is like original sin: both happened before you were born to people you could not have possibly met." -Fran Leboowitz

    There are no original thoughts!

  2. Yeah, I thought they were my own until I read Kant. Those darn philosophers always steal my ideas even when they're dead.

Your notion of Solidarity in Solitude sounds exactly like his Unsocial Sociability. Philosophers do tend to dwell on common-sense ideas and when they have no idea what they're talking about, they say it in as brief and as vague as they can bend their languages to be.

I usually read introductions to philosophers. However this one essay by Kant: "Idea for a Universal History from a Cosmopolitan Point of View", I'm guessing you'll like judging by your...er...poem, and he cuts straight to the chase.

You can't work for your selfish needs and not get in my way. It's near impossible. Now you're blocking my view of the screen.

  3. Ok, first of all, it's not an "er...poem"...it's prose...lol. I don't claim to be a poet, there's very little on this blog that I'm quite proud of. It's just an outlet (albeit a very NECESSARY outlet for me, hehehe).

And, Anonymous, I don't think I made my point clearly here. This post was for a very close friend of mine. We happened to both fall into some very...desperate (for lack of a better word) situations and hard times. This begs of us as human beings to become selfish (in the original meaning of the word) as a form of self-preservation. You have to focus and work on yourself to fix a problem from it's root. Which makes it very difficult to be there for someone else who is obviously crying for help.

This has nothing to do with getting in anyone's way. These are mutually exclusive little selfish bubbles...bubbling together. Separately.

    :)

As for my selfish work getting in the way of your regular screen viewing, hehehe, we all make choices...and this was yours.

*We really are all alone. Tiny, insignificant little pockets of 'alones' in a vast universe of loneliness. Embrace this. And let go of the anxiety and fear.
